Arabia Mountain Path

Explore beautiful landscapes along Arabia Mountain Path which is located a quick 30 minutes from Midtown Atlanta. Arabia Mountain’s scenic summit is a must-hike and is friendly for beginners and kids alike. Arabia Lake is is also a gorgeous view with quite the natural beauty — all while being just outside the Atlanta 285 perimeter.

Sweetwater Creek State Park

This State Park captures rugged outdoor beauty while being just minutes from Atlanta. There are several trails that snake through the forest, following along the sandy (and at times rocky) banks of Sweetwater Creek. There are also some really cool Civil War mill ruins, tumbling whitewater and small waterfalls to explore.

East Palisades Trail at the Chattahoochee River

This is one of my favourite Atlanta hiking spots. The East Palisades Trail at Indian Trail and Whitewater Creek is inside the 285 perimeter and offers up some the most scenic Chattahoochee River views in the city. The East Palisades Trail follows the banks of the shoaling Chattahoochee River, hikes through a bamboo forest, and scales several large bluffs to for outstanding views of the river. There is also a dog-friendly beach immediately off the parking area for a fun way to cool off with puppers in the summers.

Kennesaw Mountain (Pigeon Hill and Cheatham Hill)

There is actually a trail network at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield that leads to stunning Atlanta skyline views — through the site of a major Civil War battlefield. The dual peaks of Kennesaw Mountain offer a fun hike that explores the grassy expanses and rocky terrain along Pigeon Hill and Cheatham Hill. Keep a watchful eye out for Civil War artifacts and monuments along the trail for an Atlanta history lesson too.

Stone Mountain

There are several high-quality hiking trails at Stone Mountain. The Cherokee and Walk Up Trails offer hikes through popular, scenic, and serene sections of Stone Mountain Park. The hike summits the mountain for stunning Atlanta city views and afterwards be sure to enjoy the lake for some kayaking, fishing or beach-side sunbathing.
